Are you fed up with failing?  I know I was.  Especially at this time of year when all those plans and promises I had made in January about this year being different somehow ended up in the ‘must get to this soon’ list or the ‘oops, I didn’t do it again’ folder.

This is why I created my own way of setting goals and sticking to them.  I’ve shared this before but as this is a crucial time of year; I’ve decided to share it again.  Why?  It’s halfway through the year so often leads us to either abandon our goals and dreams (there’s always next year…) or feed our negative mindset (I’m such a failure, I knew I’d fail again, I may as well give up).

Well, not on my watch people!!!  Let’s abandon that negative mindset and feed our confidence instead.

So, what did you want to achieve this year?  Did you build a clear image of it, the feelings, and emotions it would create, and the gains and growth that would result?  No?  That may be the problem.  That and the fact you set one or more annual goals, with no real breakdown of the steps you needed to take each quarter, month, or week.  And I’ll bet you didn’t even bother planning daily actions, did you?

Right, 2022 part 2, here is your FATES action plan.

  1. Write down your big goals for this year, the ones you set back in January.
  2. Look at them and cross off any that you don’t really want to achieve anymore or know just won’t happen. It’s ok to change your mind about your goals and set new ones!
  3. Of those that remain, pick one to Focus If none are left, then think about something new you want to achieve by the end of the year. This needs to be something you really want, that you have an Appetite or desire for.
  4. Now take five minutes to visualise or feel how it will be when you have achieved that outcome. Really step into it, feel it, experience it, and notice how you walk, talk, and react.  How do others react to you?  What is one big change in you now you have achieved this goal?  Really feel, and see that in as much detail as you can.
  5. Your next step is to create Timeframes, look at that outcome and decide where you need to be at the end of September. Then figure out where you need to be at the end of July.  Are these steps you can realistically achieve by then?  If yes, great, move on to the next step.  If not, then adjust your outcome or expectations to what you know can be achieved.
  6. Now, what do you need to do this week? Write out what needs to happen by the end of the week to get you moving forward.
  7. Finally, looking at those weekly aims, identify what can you do Every day. That includes today – in fact what can you do right now? And tomorrow.  The day after, etc.

It is these daily actions that will keep you moving towards your desired outcomes.  Even if it is slow, these steady and sustainable Steps are more likely to get you there than sporadic bursts of action followed by inaction.

So, there you have it, a refresh of my FATES system which uses small daily steps to achieve your goals and change your life.  It works for me because it focuses on what you can do each day, not some vague outline of the plan for the year.  Do let me know how you get on as it’s all about you!
